The aim is to equip learners with skills to be successful in the workplace as well as life in general. When learners turn 16years, they start the Internal Job Training Programme – once a week they are placed at various workplaces within the school to gain occupational experience. Their “supervisors” oversees their performance. They work in the garden, carwash, in the classes, in the kitchen, in administration, etc. This experience within the school context gives them the confidence to venture into our External Job Training Programme.
All activities at school, from the time a learner enters the school system is geared towards preparing learners with skills to cope in the open labour market and the world of work. When learners turn 18 years, they gain experience once a week at local businesses. Under the supervision of the Senior Occupational Therapist and Senior Teacher, learners “work” in places like: local petrol stations, carwash businesses, creches, Social Services, SAPS, SENWES, local restaurants, etc. These learners acquire the needed practical skills and experience needed to succeed in the workplace. While gaining experience, they also receive references from “employers” which together with the curriculum vitae that exiting learners receive, ensures employability.
Some of the learners are not able to work in the open labour market and taught practical life skills and social skills. The multi-disciplinary teams help facilitate their placement at Adult Protective Workshops/Centres, like Rotalia Centre.
As a Resource Centre, we avail ourselves to anyone requiring our services by providing the necessary support and guidance needed.
